Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Indeed A Prequel

Rockstar’s new trailer has uncovered a bit more detail about the upcoming wild western action game Red Dead Redemption 2. Based on the brand new story trailer, it appears that the game will feature a brand new protagonist by the name of Arthur Morgan, a man who seems to be a true outlaw through and through.

Just look at those scary eyes!

Throughout the trailer, the new protagonist can be seen antagonizing the citizens of the wild west to collect on the gang’s debts. The gang, of course, just happens to be Dutch Van der Linde’s gang. Yes, that Dutch. This officially confirms that the game will indeed be a prequel to Red Dead Redemption, which I do have to admit is not a huge surprise seeing as the previous game dealt specifically with the “end of the west.”

This certainly begs the question “will John Marston be in the game” and I would have to assume the answer is yes. We’re seeing a much younger Dutch here during a time where John Marston should be soon entering the gang. It will be awfully exciting and equally emotional to see Mr. Marston again in another game, that’s for sure. It will remain to be seen if Arthur Morgan can serve as an equally compelling protagonist.

Rockstar’s official description of the upcoming game is below:

“The all-new trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, the story of outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang as they rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive. Coming Spring 2018 to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems.”

It certainly looks beautiful.

The game is set to launch in the Spring of 2018 with no specific release date as of the writing of this post. Hopefully we will learn some more information about the upcoming game in the next few months to come. I, for one, am very excited as Red Dead Redemption was one of my favorite games of last gen and one of my top games of all time.
